Internet Ghosts: Part 108
11/7: We're all streaming LUX, Bearista hype, WOOOMPPP, It's cool to not have followers, Savory snack recipe, The newest boy band, Watch the internet evolve, and more
A bit of the internet:
U-Haul for breakups | U-Haul went viral in a recent TikTok, positioning themselves as the unsung hero in breakup stories. The video cut between a breakup phone call and U-Haul images. Tapping into the niche user case of moving out after a breakup really resonated with viewers, garnering over 5 million views in less than 24 hours. Many brands, including VRBO, Ocean Spray, and Clearblue, hopped in the comment section stating the ways they’re also there to help during or after a breakup.
WOMP | TikTok creator Rob Marrocco posted a video asking for help finding a specific TikTok sound that goes “WOOOMPPP.” People in the comments actually knew what he was referencing and shared that it’s called “mentality sound.” Since there isn’t an easy or official way to search for TikTok sounds without the name, users often rely on memory or bookmarks to track them down.
Listen to LUX | The internet is losing it over Rosalía’s new album LUX. Before its release, the singer told fans to listen “in a dark room with headphones” an antidote, she said, to TikTok’s dopamine loops. Now that it’s out, listeners are calling it “ascension pop” and meme-ifying how it feels to listen to from ethereal, almost spiritual imagery to Conclave and Christo Rey on Roblox mentions.
A recipe for charcuterie | Simplystephjaye shared her “savory girl snack plate” which got 9M+ views and contained tzatziki, hash browns, toasted sourdough, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, hardboiled eggs, three types of cheese, capers, salami, peppers, olives, olive oil, vinegar, lemon, and seasonings. People asked her to “drop the recipe” and her tutorial got over 4M views as well.
What brands are up to:
Apple TV’s New Mnemonic | Apple TV teamed up with Finneas to create a new mnemonic for the platform, and it might be the most excited we’ve been about a streaming service intro…like ever. To launch it, Apple TV and Finneas dropped a joint Instagram post debuting the new logo animation and intro sound. The update comes as Apple TV simplifies its brand, dropping the “+” and prioritizing Apple Originals.
F1’s Passenger Princess | Amelia Dimoldenberg, most known for her iconic online show Chicken Shop Date, teamed up with some popular F1 drivers on a series where they teach her how to drive. Some of the world’s fastest racers are slowing down and taking on the role of “passenger princesses” as they help Amelia master the basics and spill some hot gossip around the track. The internet is loving it. Watch some of the segments here.
Pinterest’s Gift Guide | Pinterest dropped their holiday edit of expertly-curated gift guides based on search data e.g. Gifts for Frequent Flyers and Gifts for Indecisive Boyfriend. As part of this, they partnered with celebrities to curate their own unique featured boards like Dwyane Wade’s Holiday Entertaining, KATSEYE’s Gnarly or Nice Gifts, Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty Holiday Gift Guide, and more.
Starbuck’s Bearista | Starbucks released a limited edition glass Bearista cup for the holidays on November 6, and people went to extremes to get one. However, many stores only received a few cups, so many people turned innovative, making bear cups of their own.
